I bet they're all akip in their sozzled Crimbo beds, mrs i. No bracing Orcadian Boxing Day hikes for the likes of this lot.

I have to admit to feeling a tad fragile myself this morning, mr mongoose, but the Blog Dog insisted on a perambulation so that he could pick up his pee-mails from the neighbourhood dogs - Christmas greetings, challenges to duels, etcetera, so we braved the icy winds - lord, it was cold today.
I'm sure the Ishmaelites are all beavering away at the crossword, phoning friends to exchange ruminations on 25 across, and cursing the ingenuity of the crossword setter. The answers will be posted on New Year's Day and there will be no prizes.
Will there be another Crossword, mr mongoose, my dear?

Fiendish stuff, mr mongoose. Thank you again for your generous kindness. The answer - here in liminal space, at least - to 20 Down was a resounding Yes.

I shall need you to parse a couple for me down the road - 15 down and 18 down. And is there a both-could-be-right choice of vowels in the middle of 25 down?

cheers

It's just a bit of fun, mr v. Writing "fair" clues is harder than it looks.

I have started writing another one, mrs i. This one is salted with even more of mr i's savage prose.

And, no, mr v, 25d is one correct answer only. (At leasst, Ii think so.)

Ah, no, I see what you mean, mr v. Yes, either of two alternative vowels

Pathetic, mr mongoose, pathetic - the cricket I mean, not 20 down.

England probably were effectively 20 down when you wrote that, mr mike - all over in 80-odd minutes according to this morning's Peeb summary. Undercooked, underpowered and under-par by the sound of it.

Test cricket in Oz is too hard to approach it underprepared like that. A recipe for failure. 6 for 7 however is ridiculous.

Mt mongoose: a factor not appreciated until you come here is how clear the sky is and how strong the sun is. The light is very bright. I'm not exaggerating that it took me 3 years to get used to it. How batsmen with no acclimatisation cope I can't imaging. It must affect the split second vision and timing. But it looked like boys playing men.

I do not doubt it at all, mr mike. I have been watching this circus since the decade began with a 6 and we do not win over your way very often for very good reason. This time however we have given our somewhat batting-weak team little chance to compete properly, and we will have broken some young men's careers in the process through little fault of their own.
