He was a lovely man, Goodman, it's not revealed on this clip but he was a fabulous player, finger- and flat-picking, did a lot with John Prine but was himself a writer of fabulous, grown-up songs, both moving and droll, wry and witty. He was diagnosed at twenty with leukemia and died at thirty-six. City of New Orleans must've made his estate millions, people mistaking its pessimism for patriotism but there are some more, on Youtube that are more Goodmanesque - Souvenirs, with John Prine, is one of Life's heartbreakers, mrs woar - All the snow has turned to water, Christmas Day is come and gone, broken toys and faded colours're all that's left to linger on.

If Goodman had lived he'd a been more Jackson Browne than Jackson Browne but with a sense of humour. Sometimes I think that only the dying have a proper sense of humour

BTW, they are probably not to your taste but did you catch The Eagles documentary? Not for the music but for the details of the breakdown of the band.

It was edited sympathetically but slyly so that little facial expressions - he said that, did he? - were caught and you could decide who to believe. David Geffen made an appearance smoothly repudiating liability.

I did not think I would be interested but it turned out to be a fascinating story of how a a handful of people built success and then nearly killed each other.

No, I didn't see it but there have been previous Eagles rockumentaries, a hideous bunch. Thank Goodness for Jackson Browne 'sall I can say, taking it easy, sort of.

An entire town just fucks off at the first measure of scrutiny? Who could argue with that? All this shit about the debt ceiling makes me nostalgic about Halifax - it's not been widely reported that that's exactly what they should be doing - that that's what politics was invented for - fuck you and perhaps go fuck yourself again. Beats cynicism hands down. "I'll be gone by 100 miles when day is done" - cheeky bastard!

Don't understand, mr dtp; can you expand a bit, please?

I used to do Tory stuff in Halifax - "we're all socialists now" (take this as memo). A man never has immutable principles even if he reckons he does. I bought into socialism because Halifax was threatened - tit. Just sayin' Republicans doing work I should have done and it's kinda groovy but this lad's an idealist if he reckons a town can just veto stuff.

Sommet about buy in - where do you draw the line stuff or has it been drawn for you? Where does power rest?

I still don't understand, mr dtp. Which town just fucks off at the first measure of scrutiny.

Just sayin' Republicans doing work I should have done and it's kinda groovy but this lad's an idealist if he reckons a town can just veto stuff.

Which lad, which town? Do please explain, it's driving me nuts

New Orleans. Down south. In the song the guy makes out that the entire town is able to just ignore oversight; i kinda question that. I have no idea how countries moderate their governance but in the song the guy makes out that New Orleans has so much fucking charm that it should be eempyed from criticism - I call optimistic bullshit.
