Oh yez Philistines all. One of the greats, Mr. Cooder, tho' I suspect his earlier works - as per this - are a bit unencumbered for some. Should that be the case, I would point you to him in band mode, with the fabulous Moulah Banda (sp?) rhythm band.
Cooder is THE great post-war adept, Mr My Age It Means Less, if you don't know him try the country blues of Boomers Story or the double, Music by Ry Cooder, or anything - all their best stuff - in open G, by the Rolling Stones.
If you do know him you won't mind my burnishing his magic lamp, a little.

Yup - the melody? Soz, but a bit durgey I thought but then I do like Peter Gabriel so i'm quite aware i'm no bloody judge.
