Tart an' cuss turd.
An old woman and a young boy? Bit unconventional but probably a fitting sign of the times.
What's that saying that you get the face you deserve after turning forty? With all her nievete, she doesn't deserve that at twenty.
It's the gypsy in me.
It is one of Ruin's indices; this shit has always gone on, it is only we who celebrate it, good old Ron, Stones? Greatest Rock'n'Roll band in the world. To see this pampered old junky carrying-on like this and nobody give him a punch or six in the face is to feel the hot breath of the Jihad on our cheek.
The wee mite looks happy with her lot, does she not?
The hair and clothes give it away - gold - as in wee gold digger, the noo.
By the looks of it somebody HAS given him a punch or six in the face.
I wondered, Mrs Raft, if that Rock Star look isn't, literally, a chronic internal chemical burn that's made its way to the surface?
So long as she's legal and gets rewarded for being knobbed by the old twat dunno what the problem is.
Twin problems: horror and moral terror.
two consenting adults and therefore no nonce, n'est-pas? it's probably just a normal case of De Beers goggles, and your outrage is misplaced.
No, Mr richard, it's not misplaced; you can make the same mealy-mouthed both-adults claim for Spunky Bill and Monica and for Charlie Windsor and Diana Spencer, but it isn't about ages of consent but misuse of -generally male- power and the celebration of a "rakishness" which in non-celebrities would be seen for what it is, some dirty old man banging a girl young enough to be his grand-daughter, cocooned by celebrity and wealth, n'est ce pas?
ok ok, the n'est pas was bad. however, misuse of power in the two instances you mention implies coercion. if the two people are adults AND there is no coercion then any problem which exists is the business of the two people concerned. i wasn't being mealy-mouthed, but nor am i a moral policeman for two consenting adults. if old people use riches and fame to attract young adults that's their problem. unpleasant, yes, but as yet there is no law against being repulsive.
The law of your own concience should scream at you that everything is wrong. Ron's probably older than her dad. In every normal walk of life, people would feel repulsed at the vision of a young girl and the wizened, corrupt old scrote, getting it on. In years to come, when she has reached a maturity of thought, she will no doubt feel as ashamed as we are. As for Ron,i wonder if he ever has any qualms about his actions,or is it a case of living out his sick fantasies, encouraged by the stellar ego's of his,and others, celeb ticket of access all areas.
Mother's Ruin - there's no merit in using wealth to attract partners who would otherwise run a mile if you were poor. i have no respect for so-called "rakishness", and this mis-match seems embarrassing to me. but if no coercion exists, no problem exists. it's their business, not anyone else's. our beloved host, Mr Ishmael, is a gifted writer and an insightful human being, but perhaps he's bringing his gun to bear on a target far beneath his dignity - a moth-eaten buzzard and a magpie.
Thanks, mr richard, you are perfectly right to cling to even the bizarre freedom of choice represented here and to defend it a priori and given the breakneck speed of freedom's erosion one hesitates to add a but but but there is. I do not differ from you that much. I don't suggest that a law be found to condemn Wood; both, as you say are acting legally. Also, as you say, in the scheme of things, this is an apparently trivial matter and yet I clutch at it's hidden enormity and obviously haven't articulated same to your satisfaction. I don't know if my revulsion at this spectacle is instinctive or conditioned, probably both but Mr Mother's Ruin's sentiments echo my own entirely, just a straighforward screaming of outrage. It may be that the girl is mature beyond her years and Wood immature beyond belief, but even so, there remains a huge, uncomfortable and I suggest unnatural gap between the parties to this mesalliance, so potentially offensive as an exemplar as to merit discouragement and disapproval in the strongest possible terms; it is by such common unspokennesses, such herd-defensive shibboleths that we have survived, these are the necessary dictates of breeding, old sperm and young eggs are not an ideal genetic compound, see Gordon Brown, one child out of three healthy; socially, too, this trophyism is offensive both to the less privileged elderly males, to the ditched and despised older woman and to the more virile, more naturally appropriate young males; these, it is true, are not reasons compelling enough to override Wood's freedom in this matter but they may provide a rationale for what I guess would be a fairly common revulsion at his choice to exercise it and a recognition that a failure to condemn it - never mind making it a cause celebre - is another step down Ruin's Highway.I cannot but see coercion in the case of Clinton and Lewinsky, he the most powerful male in the world, she a generationally younger, unpaid volunteer in his office - and even if you allow that this was just an equality of lust then just examine the subsequent attempt to utilise the entire weight of the State against poor wee Monica, is that not entirely foreseeable coercion ?I suppose where we differ is that I see a duty of care as being, you know, supra-legal, doesn't matter if, technically, this woman is old enough. Wood, at his age, has a duty not to act as he does, not to exercise that particular freedom.
yeah well...me an groupyana 'ave bin followin this discussion wiv great interest...that is, in between reading pellatio, suckratease an the collected works of shoppinhour...an after a long deliberation we 'ave come to the onanimious conclusion that if i giv' 'er all me wonga i can carry on shaggin 'er an still have a crack at getting inta 'eavan, ooever she is. thanks for all yer 'elpful spirititual guidance ishmael, yer reach the parts other whiskys cannot teach, almost...now fuck off you jealous git or i'll get mick t'giv yer a frenchie.
03:15yeah...that's right, ronnie, you tell 'im man. you're a well red roostah. good 'ole fashioned socialist finkin - where would we be wivout it?
thanks for that fine reply to my last comment. i agree with everything except the last paragraph. there is no duty of care. a gentleman, honourable, would feel obliged to behave with decorum and self-respect, which is a different thing than "duty of care". but one is not obliged to be kind, or a gent, or to care about other peoples' opinion. it's better to be virtuous and to recognise truth, but not obligatory. i had never even heard of this mismatch until i saw your post, because i care little for celebrities. i say "so what, an old rich guy and a young girl, she's after his money and he's a fool" repulsive or not, this goes in a box marked "someone else's private life and nothing to do with me" and is then ignored. personally, i prefer women from my own decade, (remembering the Banana Splits is a sine qua non) but i'll decide who's compatible. same goes for Wood. same for us consenting adults all.
Differ we must, then, mr richard and others. I don't follow celebrity stuff, I was just struck, in passing, by that photograph in one of the skymadeuonewsandfilth papers.I know, also, that among many, the Rolling Stones have, still, a heroic, counter-cultural standing based on a handful of amazingly potent recordings made thirty, forty years back and had hoped to attract some discussioin from mr elby among others on the subject of young men's music being eternally recirculated by old men and also on the perennial Can Bad Men Do Good Art, in the light of the Polanksi jamboreee. Wood, I consider an indifferent artist either in paint or in music, but yaknowaddamean, man.I believe there is a horrid, violent fraudulence at the root of Rolling Stones Inc and that it is never too late to expose, recognise our joint collusion in it.I suppose we have a different understanding of consenting and adult, yours, in this case being, quite legitimately, legalistic, mine equally legitimately being more esoteric, morally judgemental.I know, it's only rock'n'roll, but I like it.THanks for your good wishes, mr spigit et al.
I believe that consent must be informed. The information the 20 year old has now is very different to the information say, that Mrs Wood has, with her life experience, and her experience of Mr Wood. The young Russian's consent is therefore compromised. She WILL feel an idiot and self loathing over all this in years to come, but let's hope his money salves her shame.
le mot juste, Lilith; let us hope there is some money left, after wee Ron has finished medicating himself, the poor wee rock'n'roll lamb. But let that not thwart a well-deserved punch in the mouth from someone outside celebrity's ghastly sway.
Indeed not, Mr Smith, swing away!
