SATURDAY CLUB

TALKING OF ROSEMARY, SWEETS FOR THE SWEET.

Long before Roger McGuinn and the Byrds disembowelled Mr Tambourine Man, a British band was crafting perfect pop songs characterised by the jangly Rickenbacker 12-string, swooping falsetto and exquisite close harmony singing. The Searchers didn’t write their own stuff but chose excellent material to cover – Jackie de Shannon, Jagger-Richards, even an early apocalyptic protest song by Malvina Reynolds as well as rock and R’n’B staples. The Searchers enjoyed a few years of global popularity, failing eventually to progress from Pop into the druggy doggerel and bombast of Rock. Surviving members tour yet in various combinations, although Mike Pinder’s is probably the true, Needles and Pins-a, voice of the Searchers. Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, never let it fade away.

A prize of a virtual tee-shirt awaits the first person to unravel the title above the clip.

Is it a well deserved dedication to Woman on a Raft?

It's the name of a 60's music radio programme but am I thinking the obvious?

It's MIKE PENDER not Pinder...and yes, Mike along with Tony Jackson, was the voice of The Searchers and lucky for us fans, Mike's still singing these days around the UK!

Mrs Woman On A Raft's herbalist hymn to Rosemary just fired-off the thoughts that wound up, oddly, at The Searchers. The same patterns, or similar, weave through Mr narcolept's mind, to him the tee-shirt and appropriate congratulations.

OPHELIA, mourning her father,

There's rosemary, that's for remembrance; pray,
love, remember: and there is pansies. that's for thoughts......

.....There's fennel for you, and columbines: there's rue
for you; and here's some for me: we may call it
herb-grace o' Sundays: O you must wear your rue with
a difference. There's a daisy: I would give you
some violets, but they withered all when my father
died: they say he made a good end,--

QUEEN GERTRUDE, mourning Ophelia

Sweets to the sweet: farewell!

Scattering flowers

I hoped thou shouldst have been my Hamlet's wife;
I thought thy bride-bed to have deck'd, sweet maid,
And not have strew'd thy grave.

Not like you to think the obvious Mr caractacus but in this case yes, Saturday Club with Brian Matthew was not the answer to the riddle, such as it was, must try harder.
