In Memoriam

Ishmael Smith, 1950 to 23rd January 2020
Writer and Satirist
Much missed.

"Call me Ishmael.... whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth ....... and it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then I quietly take to the ship."
Moby Dick, Herman Melville

Across the dark seas of night to the bright shores of morning, mr ishmael.

Many thanks to ishmaelites, commentators and all those who stop by, read and move on, for whom mr ishmael holds a special place in memory. Hard to believe it has been four years since he left us, and how the world has changed in those four years. He wanted the blog to continue, to provide a corner of cyber street for those of us with a similar mind and view of the world to hang out. And we do.
Thank you, mrs narcolept - and good to hear from you again - always a pleasure. I keep on keeping on, just as mr ishmael wanted. I won't say it's easy. But you all help hugely.

Kind of you, mrs ishmael. And thank you. There is nowhere like here.

I haven’t been around much because the young narcolepts all celebrated lockdowns by getting married to their beloveds and creating a tribe of younger insomniacs, so I have been doing non-stop babysitting. Poor mr narcolept has had to tidy up his assorted bike bits in case of accidents, and keeps telling me we should leave the offspring in possession of the house and flee somewhere remote.
