Phantasm Flying Fucking Fishing Boat of Doom revisited

This is the quaintly old-fashioned local newspaper, carrying news of the Russian shenanigans in Orkney waters. In case you missed the story, here's a summary.
During the week commencing the 10th October 2022, the phone and internet subsea cable between Faroe and Shetland was sliced. It was claimed that this was the work of a dodgy anchor on a fishing vessel. Faroe has been granting Russian fishing vessels licenses to fish for blue whiting in Faroe's waters in exchange for Faroese fishing vessels being given the right to fish for haddock and cod in Russia's Exclusive Economic Zone. So the Phantasm Flying Fucking Fishing Boat of Doom is likely a Russian PFFF Boat engaged in sabotaging undersea cables with its dodgy anchorings.
On the 17th October 2022, the Akademik B. Petrov left her home port of Kalingrad, following the Norwegian coastline towards the North Sea oilfields. On the 20th October the subsea cable carrying internet and phone communications between Orkney and Shetland was severed. The Petrov headed west towards Shetland on Friday 21st October, passing close to the subsea cable. She then charted and re-charted several intended courses, as reported by Marine Traffic. Approaching waters west of the isle of Westray on Friday evening, she then changed course again, to take a route cutting through the heart of Orkney's Northern archipelago. At that point a Danish registered NATO warship turned up in waters south-west of Hoy and the Petrov changed course again, crossing waters close to the convergence of three Atlantic subsea internet cables, the new route taking her away from Orkney and down the west side of the UK.
Akademic B.Petrov, underwater surveillance and intelligence gathering ship.
She briefly rattled Northern Ireland, as reported on the Belfastlive newslink, but is now in the North East Atlantic, heading to the port of Belem, Brazil, at a speed of 8.4 knots and expected to arrive on November 17th.
Orkney is feeling a tad exposed at present. Orkney Islands Council had a splendid nuclear bunker, equipped with bunks, showers, emergency food supplies, tech, first aid supplies, Geiger counters and a four foot thick door. All Local Authorities had them, intended for the preservation of the lives of those designated essential to the rebuilding of society after a nuclear strike. Over the years, as the cold war grew dim in folk's memories, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics collapsed, the bunks and showers were removed, a window was cut into the wall and the food was disposed of to the Food Bank. It was never going to work, anyway. The four foot thick door opened outwards. Imagine forcing that open with the rubble of the building piled up against it.

That's it then Mrs I, dem Rooskies have have determined this blog is a threat to national security; "we're all doomed" (tm Pvte Frazer).

Either that, or something else is going on we haven't been told about up in those windy Isles??

We're back with Donald Rumsfeld's Known Unknowns, mr mike.
Of course something is going on in these windy isles - we know this because we know that they are always at it, somewhere, but particularly in this case because they pesky Rooskies are taking such an interest, slicing subsea cables and sending in a state-of-the-art surveillance vessel. Furthermore, when the Ministry of Defence denies something, then the population goes, aye, aye, best get some tins in, Mother. That's the Known bit. The Unknown bit is the really frightening part. Just what is it they are up to?
Everytime my BT internet connection drops out - and it is currently happening quite frequently, or my phone makes spit, crackle and pop noises, I remind myself to get some tins in.
A chum told me yesterday that the minute she's got her husband bludgeoned into acceptance, she's moving back to the mainland.

It beggars belief that our Lords and Masters had not thought about what might in uncertain times but then everyone believes that everything last forever. Until it doesn't.

I begin to see an increasing frenzy among the eco-loons. COP999 coming up in sunny Egypt this year might make some unpleasant headlines. The game is not up. Not yet. But the pigeon is definitely among the cats now. Rishi not going, HM Tampon Brian not going... And seriously, folks, we cannot afford any more of this Tomfoolery. It will have to stop or be watered down to the point of invisibility. Mad, Bad Vlad, eh? The commonsense saviour of the world! Whoda thunkit?

Russia is now saying the Royal Navy "specialists" were behind the blowing up of NS1 and NS2. So expect some asymmetrical response on the RN.

If it was the the Royal Navy, it seems a damn stupid thing to do. Where's the sense in it?

Mike said...

Mrs I: when the Russian MoD says that RN "specialists" did it, it means they have the "specialists" names, IDs, life histories, shoe sizes and inside leg measurements. There will be payback, but not necessarily in an obvious tit for tat way. Of course, the RN and UK couldn't act without the US nod.

Of course, this makes no sense - why the UK, Europe and eventually the US would destroy themselves because of Ukraine. But its not really about Ukraine. Its the West trying to keep colonial control over the rest of the world, particularly Russia and China.

I don't understand this, mr mike. Nobody has ever really had any sort of "colonial" control of these two places. Help me out.

Mr mongoose: China has been raped and pillaged by Britain, France, Japan in turn. Britain even made them smoke opium to control them.

For a thousand years the West (Europe) has tried to subjugate Russia - all failed. Its a joke in Russia that every 100 years the West has another go only to get its collective arse handed to it. The most recent attempt, and nearly successful, was in the 1990s after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. US economic advisors went in to "help" and proceeded to strip mine Russian resources. Then along came Putin, and reversed everything. That's why they hate him.

Re colonisation in general just think of Britain in the Middle East and in India, Burma etc; and more recently the US in SE Asia and the Middle East. And now the US has colonised Europe.

Its all about extracting the resources and labour of countries in return for glass beads (now paper fiat money) and "democracy".

Of course, America has just acquired four more states without lifting a finger. It's all a pantomime Mrs I and Mr Mike; a terrible one, true enough, but a painted show nonetheless.

Leave the tins and drink the wine. And pray now and then.

Thanks, mr mike. It is as you say regarding China but I had seen anyone getting anywhere colonising Russia. I suppose if you ignore the great expanse and just play with the western "European" bit, when the royal houses of Europe were playing happy families it was part of some pre-revolutionary empire based on inbreeding.
