Yes, with a bit of luck, what he did right was not to be Extensible 'Tony' Blair or Mrs Straw's Stretchable Boy.

Maybe. But it didn't seem like that at the time, and for quite a while when I was about 11 I was more than slightly in love with Holden, though perhaps even more with the ever-absent Seymour.

Oh yes, loved this too, blew me away that books could be like this (aged 14?) Made a refreshing change from other books that are supposed to be about young people like Lord of the Flies. I
