Continuing the cricket metaphor...
'For when the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He marks not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.'
Roy Harper. Used to play the 'Red Lion' in Kings Heath.

Mr Ishmael, I don't know what to say ...
Poor old you, Mr I.
Condolences to you, Mr Ishmael, and blessings for Buster. How very sad.
So sorry to hear the sad news, Mr Ishmael.
He's had a good innings.
The wee Prospects and I will miss his antics.
Very sad news Mr I. It has taken the shine right off my day. Though I never saw Buster I learned something of his life here. Enough to irrationaly care what happens anyway. So goodbye Buster the blog dog and thanks for the story of you going to the vets that reduced me to helpless laughter.
Condolences offered to you, Mr Ishmael, on the loss of your great little fearless friend.
...............................................
Sorry for the loss of your friend.
I too have raged against the darkness upon losing small friendly quadrupeds.
My sincere condolences Mr Ish, think not of his passing, but of a life well lived, a companionship well shared and of love never witheld.
Thanks to Gasky for putting it so well. Echo those comments. Sorry for your loss Mr Ishmael and thinking of you and Buster
Had a good innings, though, Mr I. Condolences.
Such sad moments mr Ish, such sorrow, deserving of our tears.
May it be an eternal summer day on the lawn for him.
Oh no, Mr Ishmael, oh no. So wretchedly sad. These animals we share our lives with so often seem to be the best of ourselves, and their passing is a unique and terrible pain. May his end have been quiet and calm.
Animals, better than people...
honest, not make up
Oh bugger. Hope the old fella didn't suffer much.
Candle. Window.
Keep your chin up!
