The Incredible String Band, mrs n, ued to sing that Music is so much less, than what you are......even the birds, when they sing, it's not everything. And it's not, but I Know what you mean.

I'm not always together enough for Bach's remorseless precision but when I am, often when making these commentaries, I listen to the late Mme Jacottet at her jangly Harpsichord, doing that Well Tempered Klavier stuff. It levels my head and eases my mind.

My dear mr narcolept is always telling me that music is a way of fleeing from reality, but I put that down to his being tone deaf.

There is a bit in the final movement of the double violin concerto where one violin is doing one tune and the other one is doing another one, and then they meet, and then suddenly everything makes sense for a moment and the clock stops in my brain. Not everything, no, but something.
