Very nice, Mr I. That Rawlings surely does get around a sort of journeyman genius plying his trade wherever he finds it leads him.

It IS very nice but I think they personify the colonisation of country music by showbiz careerists. They always chose very nice material, easy to harmonise, easy for Rawlings to extemporise upon. I dunno, very pleasant, easy listening, tres Americaine.

So much of country music, Mr I, is authentic music made safe. Safe enough for Radio 2, safe enough to let the children or Grandma listen to it. Would I listen to it again? Probably. If I had not already forgotten the lady's name.

I currently labour through the early-teenage years of my lot, and ipod-loading and fixing being my current job, I get to listen to a lot of their stuff. It is the very cutting edge of popular music, I tell you, and, Christ, what a miserable racket. There must be a Seventies-esque punk backlash lurking somewhere in there surely, kids. Come on, will you, please? (Although, I note with some regret that the rotten bastard, Mr Rotten, has sold his soul and now advertises some fucking crap on the telly. Have they no shame?)

No, they have no shame. There is no business like show business.
