FAB MOPSTER ON FINE FORM

Not bad for the old cunt. Am on a huge Beatles and early Stones jag (pre Exiles, their last record of note) at the moment; the Beatles stereo remixes are monstrous, and a return to Aftermath yesterday reminded me how much I adored them.

And Exiles is one of the finest rock 'n roll records of all time. All down hill after that, with a few good thigh-slappers along the way. Love Keef to bits. Still. A role model for this old man in his youth, bless him.

That's what I thought, in fact, a bit better than not bad. So much of his tribute band stuff is rubbish and his recent outings have been dismal, he should stop; maybe it was the presence of George Martin and, Knopfler, I think, and others that kept this one going but baby I was amazed.

Stealing My Heart and Start Me Up, don't amount to much in the years since Exile on Main Street but they're about it, I think, Stoneswise. If only they could have met another Ry Cooder to rip-off.

I think, mr elby, that future musical historians will value the Beatles as sometimes-original artistes, the Stones as, for a few years, skilled exponents of that part of the blues known as urban. Odd, too, they might reflect, that the four most original and significant contributors to the Stones magic - Cooder, Jones, Taylor and Ian Stewart are all but airbrushed out of the Stone Age.
