GERRY AND CILLA LATEST. WHAT THEY THINK.

Doctors know best.

Well, the police are clearly the victims here and we should all remember that;   and the doctors, obviously, Cilla and I being doctors ourselves and beyond reproach. And what needs to be understood about these parents is that instead of going out and getting pissed-up with their mates and leaving the kids alone in a strange house, in a strange town in a strange country, what these people did is care for their little kid and actually spend some time with him.
We can only hope that they are punished to the fullest extent of the law. And that the police have a nice sunny holiday at taxpayers' expense, as so many of them have in our case.

We are still accepting donations to help us search for little Wotsername. Terms and conditions apply.

Ah..you can’t arrest some people it seems.
Plod moral in the lower levels must be reaching rock bottom by now, given the competence of ranking officers they have these days.
The folks in Portugal must snigger every time they see them arrive off the plane.
Nice thingy from WOAR on the last thingy.

Being a Scouser and hence a perennial victim I suppose that it shouldn't surprise me that it seems never to have occurred to our Cilla that she may be in any way to blame for the disappearance of little Wotsername.
Speaking as a parent I would be too mortified at the loss of a child that I had deliberately left on its own that I doubt I could ever speak public on the matter.

Gerry and Cilla are a source of constant amazement. Not only do they have some people believing that the whole matter is the fault of the Portuguese police but Gerry, personally, that's p-e-r-s-o-n-a-l-l-y was allowed, by Leicester Social Services, although he is not an employee, to announce its decision that not only were he and Cilla not neglectful but that they were excellent parents. These SS departments, what are they like? Leicester, Rotherham, Hampshire?

They have some people believing Mr Ish, only some people.
Famous and feted for having lost a child...that's about the sum of it.

I think you are probably two or three generations behind the times. I had a friend/acquaintance "in the force" in the middle fifties and some of the stories he told were more than enlightening.

I reckon, right about now, they're at the point in their lives where if they'd just taken the rap for being shit parents and not keeping an eye on their kids and, possibly, but by no means guaranteed, spent a few years in jail pour encourager les autres, then, on release, they'd be utterly anonymous.

Able to either a) get over the shitness of their parenting by pointing to the years they'd spent atoning in prison or b) and purely speculatively (amongst themselves obviously) figuring that yeah, they might have done some terrible thing and got away with it....

But here they are trapped forever in no-mans-land. Neither punished for being shit parents nor punished for being.. shit parents.

Although if being a shit-parent is cause for incarceration then I'm fucked. I too have left the kids in a strange room in a foreign country and had a fucking skinfull no further away from the kids than the McCanns.

I guess that's why middle-class-dom is so loathe to condemn the McCanns.

There but for the grace of God and all that ...

I don't know what happened to Madeleine McCann but even if Gerry and Cilla had, for whatever reason, killed the poor kid they'd be out by now whereas they are now trapped in either a) the still genuine loss of their child, b) the guilt associated with not looking after her or c) the thought that one day one of them will spill the beans on some terrible fate that they know did befall her.

Fucking shit future whichever way you look at it.

A perceptive and compassionate summary mr jgm2 but they are undeserving. if you set the neglect (at best) to one side there is their later conduct on the night in question, the fact that they didn't phone-in the alleged abduction for same time until Gerry had arranged for a PR team, had contacted, via a friend, Kirsty Wark and that he, Cilla and their mates had trampled all over the so-called crime scene before contacting the police, even though Gerry had instantly called the disappearance an abduction; their absurd lies abouit the events, their refusal to answer legitimate police questions, their misuse of donated funds.

I often wonder - as you suggest - how the cards will fall, should either of them find the other as repulsive as do I and spills the beans.

Sorry, I accidentally deleted your comment about Jackson Browne. To my knowledge there is no suggestion that he is gay and I would be very surprised were that the case; his youthful looks are sometimes attributed to native American blood.
