Food Porn

Montalbano enjoying Adele's Arancini

Recipe for Arancini:

But before we allow ourselves to be carried away by Sicilian delicacies, here's mr ishmael on Food Porn:

It was mr mirage made in heaven, prompted me to stop eating animals.  Eating flesh has been a bugbear since I stopped being  a vegetarian last time, in the 'seventies.  Since then it had been a guilty sort of pleasure although pleasure is a word I don't really associate with eating, less and less so, in fact,  since the creation of food porn on the CrueltyTelly.  If I ever met this pair of insufferable jumped-up burger slingers I would unhesitatingly give them a good Georgeing;* those two or any of them; their ouevre is revolting, surely, to any of decency.

The fetishising of food, though, has grown almost unavoidable. A poet I once knew wrote of  the supermarket aisles being filled with ...... strange fruits and swollen roots and popping corn in packets from the CIA; those aisles are now much more alien, as people forage among them for the ingredients to make a Thai curry, or Pasta 'Ncasciata.

* Georgeing? No idea. Any ishmaelites like to hazard a guess?
 Subsequently - Undoubtedly George Galloway.

  1. George Galloway? Might be him if the extract dates from the time GG fired a round of fucks into Congress about Iraq. Probably not but nothing else comes to mind.

  2. Mr verge's fits the context, but from Mr I, I would have been expecting something a little more violent.

GG ripping arseholes at that Congressional hearing, when the bastards would have shipped him off to Gitmo for one false word, is one of my all-time youtube favorites. In fact I might re-watch now.

  3. Sorry, I lost the date of the original - the old Blogger used to do that: it would substitute the date of viewing for the date of drafting. New Blogger retains the date of drafting, which makes my task easier, as I trawl through the material in Blogger's back offices.
The only other George I could think of was Osborne, but all he did was twitch, sneer and look sick.
Link, please, mr mike. And I'm expecting a review of your arancini once made, as the Youtube recipe was to celebrate our shared love of Sicily and Montalbano. It is far too complicated for me, I fear.

This is a gem worth listening to every minute. There is 6.45 minutes preamble where they lay out the charges, then George opens up with all guns. He has brass balls - considering the consequences. Even with the little jew at the end he did not hold back.

Once I have worked on the arancini I will advise. Tonignt it was a simple dish of spaghetti with prawns in a garlic, chili and creme sauce. Washed down with a lightish Italian red.

  5. Thanks, mr mike, you have convincingly supported mr verge's hypothesis. George Galloway it is. And very impressive he was, too.
You are drinking imported Italian? I thought Australia had some significant reds of its own.

  6. Can't remember who said it: "so little time, so many reds".

Yes we have very good reds here, and also from NZ. I particularly have a soft spot for Argentinian and Chilian reds. Not much of quality makes it from Europe.

But no, the Italian red I was referring to was "Two Italian Boys Shiraz" which I think originates in Victoria here. Its a cheap everyday quaffer, but amazingly good for the price ($7, delivered). If its something with chili in, no need to be over-snobbish.

When I walk the Camino routes, after a few hours walking I find I hallucinate about food and wine. En route, the local wines at 2-3 euros in a bar are very drinkable (but only after the day's walk). Happy day, unlikely to come again.

  7. Correction: Sangiovese not Shiraz.
