Oh, yeah, hang on - it's an insurance calculation: the longer the horror endured by each imminent corpse, the bigger the compensation package to each bereaved relative. Might something similar be going on with the rush to label the young pilot nuts? Cheaper than mechanical/systematic catastrophe?
