EVENSONG, KIKI DEE

  1. Kiki was forever ruined for me after the ghastliness of she and Mrs Elton warbling "Don't go breaking my heart". Let me see if I can find a link...

  2. Yes but this was lovely, donchathink? It is surprising how many otherwise fine artists have recorded with Reggie, that's showbusiness, I suppose. I have never seen him as anything more than a mediocre piano player with a monstrous ego.

  3. Thanks to that, I have been going around crooning I Will Untangle Myself, sotto voce, all day. Another wonderful performer strangely overlooked, at least by me. I don't think her being called Kiki helped.

As for Reg: I have a soft spot for anyone who sang the songs that seemed to mean something to me when I was in my teens, when every lyric was obviously about my life or my loves, before I finally decided my future lay beyond the yellow brick road (ah ah-ah ah-ah). They are a motley crew, those people, and I'd be too embarrassed to own up to some of them now, but I still feel a pang when I hear them on Radio 2 at odd times.

  4. Yes, very lovely, Mr Ishmael, and I was a teenager with the hots for Kiki in those days. Big, grown-up sophisticated woman of the world she was. Aw, bless.

As for Radio 2, mrs narcolept, it comes to us all. A few weeks ago though I heard Sheena is a Punkrocker on th afternoon show.

    As loud as you like.
